About Me
Hello friend,
I’m Katie.
In the applied social sciences, it’s common to begin research with a positionality statement as a way of acknowledging the messy human behind the work. Consider this mine.
This is the one-dimensional digital space that represents me as a multi-dimensional human.
I work at the intersection of applied health research, neuroscience, ageing, and embodied ways of knowing. I care about nuance and context. Rather than searching for definitive answers, I’m drawn to asking better, more generative questions.
You won’t find tidy solutions here, but you might find expansion. I orient myself towards pleasure. My practice is heavily informed by pleasure activists such as Audre Lorde and adrienne maree brown. I create a container and give permission to sit in the liminal space, the in-between chaos and rigidity. Then we meet what comes up. This is how we cultivate resilience and flexibility in our ways of being, and that’s usually where the rich and interesting things happen….
I wear many hats: somatic practitioner, researcher, coach, nutritionist, neuroscientist, educator, writer, yogi, yoga teacher, and lifelong learner. I hold a PhD, with formal training in neuroscience, brain health, ageing, and applied social science, and I now work across research, practice, and creative spaces.
Beyond my work, I am an ocean-loving selkie, a music-obsessed groupie, a third-culture kid, an ever-changing body, a relationally focused friend, and a counter-cultural queer, trying to find meaning and navigate this life just like everyone else.
I’m based in London currently, but as a third-culture kid, I travel often, call many places home and work both online and in person.
I try to give myself permission to be messy. To change. To evolve. I hope that modelling this makes a little more space for others to do the same.
